Frequently asked questions

IOWL membership is not simply purchased. The public journey begins with an Aspirant learner account. Certified professional standing is then awarded only where the learner successfully completes the relevant Positive Value Leadership™ pathway and meets the required engagement and assessment standards.

Important distinction

A no-fee Aspirant learner account gives access to begin the IOWL journey. It is not the same as certified membership standing. Certified Associate, Member and Fellow standing are conditional on successful completion of the relevant assessed PVL pathway.

General

About IOWL membership

These questions explain the overall relationship between IOWL, Positive Value Leadership™, the Global Institute for Calibre & Integrity™ and certified professional standing.

IOWL membership is a recognised relationship with the Institute of One World Leadership. The public journey begins with an Aspirant learner account. Certified Associate, Member or Fellow standing is awarded only when a learner successfully completes the relevant Positive Value Leadership™ pathway and satisfies the required engagement and assessment rules.

Aspirant access can be created as a learner account. Certified standing is earned. It is not awarded merely because a person pays a fee, holds a job title, has a degree or has previous management experience.

The Global Institute for Calibre & Integrity™ is the IOWL institutional body through which calibre and integrity recognition is positioned. It supports the awarding and explanation of Calibre Credits™, calibre-related professional standing and related IOWL recognition records.

Positive Value Leadership™ is the IOWL framework through which learners develop calibre, judgement, Positive Values and integrous conduct. It is the pathway through which learners progress from awareness and aspiration towards certified professional standing where appropriate.

No. IOWL's work includes leadership, but it is not limited to formal leadership titles. Calibre, integrity, judgement and values-led responsibility matter across workforces, institutions and societies. A person may begin the IOWL journey before they hold a formal leadership role.

Aspirant access

No-fee Aspirant learner account

The primary public route is to create an Aspirant learner account and then decide whether to progress to a certified or introductory PVL pathway.

An Aspirant learner account gives a learner access to begin the IOWL journey. It allows the learner to explore IOWL, Positive Value Leadership™, calibre, integrity and possible pathway options. It is a non-certified account and does not itself confer certified standing.

The Aspirant learner account is available at no fee. Certified PVL pathways, assessment, awards, documentation or other services may carry fees, which are shown on the relevant pathway or registration pages.

No. Aspirant access is the start of the journey. Calibre Credits™ are linked to assessed certified pathways where a learner successfully meets the relevant assessment requirements.

No. IOWL no longer needs to present student membership as a separate public grade. Students, graduates, early-career learners and experienced professionals may all start through Aspirant access. The pathway recommendation then depends on role, readiness, purpose and professional background.

You can access My World, review available learning and pathway information, and decide whether to proceed to a certified or introductory Positive Value Leadership™ route. IOWL or a sponsoring institution may also guide you towards a suitable pathway.

Pathways and eligibility

Choosing the right PVL pathway

The right pathway depends on responsibility level, educational or professional background, experience, purpose and readiness for assessed calibre development.

The main certified professional recognition pathways are Foundation, Keystone and Capstone. Foundation normally leads to Certified Associate of IOWL standing, Keystone to Certified Member of IOWL standing, and Capstone to Certified Fellow of IOWL standing, subject to successful completion and assessment.

Basal and Bedrock are introductory or preparatory routes. They support awareness, aspiration, intent and early engagement with Positive Value Leadership™. They do not normally award Calibre Credits™ or certified professional standing.

Foundation is generally suitable for early-career professionals, graduate entrants, developing supervisors and those seeking an assessed first level of professional standing. Keystone is generally suitable for managers, professionals and people with established responsibility. Capstone is generally suitable for senior professionals, senior managers, directors, founders or people carrying wider institutional or societal responsibility.

No. It is a guide. IOWL may recommend a different pathway where a learner's experience, maturity, sponsor requirements, institutional cohort design, role responsibilities or assessment readiness make another route more appropriate.

No. Educational background may help determine the suitable pathway, but it is not the same as calibre. IOWL considers responsibility, experience, purpose and readiness for assessed learning. A degree does not automatically confer membership standing, and a person without a degree is not automatically excluded.

No. A job title is not the same as calibre. Certified standing depends on successful completion of the relevant PVL pathway and assessment. Prior experience may influence the suitable pathway, but it does not replace assessment.

Yes. Partner institutions or employers may sponsor a cohort at a particular pathway level where that aligns with role seniority, programme design or intended outcomes. IOWL still retains responsibility for standards, assessment and awarding decisions.

Standing and awards

Certified standing, Calibre Credits™ and awards

These questions explain what learners receive, what they may use publicly, and what each recognition record means.

AIOWL, MIOWL and FIOWL identify certified professional standing within IOWL. AIOWL is normally linked to Foundation, MIOWL to Keystone and FIOWL to Capstone, subject to successful completion of the relevant pathway and assessment.

You may use IOWL post-nominals only after IOWL has formally awarded the relevant certified standing and while that standing remains current under IOWL rules. You should not use Associate, Member or Fellow post-nominals merely because you have registered for, started or paid for a pathway.

A Statement of Professional Standing™ is an IOWL recognition record that confirms a learner has achieved recognised standing in a defined area. In this context, it confirms professional standing in Calibre and Integrity following successful completion of the relevant assessed pathway.

Calibre Credits™ are IOWL recognition units linked to assessed development in calibre, integrity, Positive Values and values-led judgement. They are not simply a record of attendance or time spent online.

No. Calibre Credits™ are not university academic credits, not generic CPD points and not attendance certificates. They are IOWL recognition units for calibre and integrity development within the Positive Value Leadership™ framework.

The Passport of Probity™ is an IOWL recognition concept that brings together evidence of calibre, integrity and professional standing. It is designed to help a learner evidence values-led development and trustworthiness to employers, institutions and other relevant audiences.

IOWL awards and documents are normally made available digitally through My World. Supplementary physical documents or award packs may be available where offered and may carry separate fees.

IOWL may provide verification mechanisms, documents or confirmation routes where appropriate. Learners should use the exact wording issued by IOWL and should not create unauthorised variants of IOWL awards, titles or marks.

Fees and payment

Fees, pricing, payment and refunds

The main membership page does not need to act as a price list. Current fees should be shown on the relevant pathway pages or during registration because fees may depend on course, country, currency, intake, partner arrangement or bursary support.

Prices can vary by pathway, country, currency, intake, partner cohort and eligibility. The most accurate place to show fees is the relevant course pathway or registration page, where the applicable pricing logic can be applied.

No. Creating an Aspirant learner account is available at no fee. Fees may apply when a learner chooses to enrol on a certified PVL pathway, assessment, award pack, replacement document or other paid service.

A certified pathway fee may include platform access, registration, course/resource access, tutorial and learning support, assessment administration, certification processing and, where expressly stated, first-year standing that is conferred only if the learner successfully completes the pathway.

No. Payment allows access to the relevant paid pathway and assessment process. Certified membership standing is conditional on successful completion. A learner who does not pass does not enter certified standing merely because a fee was paid.

Where local currency pricing is available, it should be shown during pathway selection or registration. Where local pricing is not available or cannot be detected, prices may be shown in GBP or another relevant default currency.

Available payment methods are shown during registration, checkout or invoicing. They may differ depending on country, cohort, sponsoring organisation or payment route.

IOWL may make Study Support, bursary-supported access or partner-supported access available where approved. These arrangements are not automatic and may depend on country, institution, cohort, sponsor or eligibility.

Refund, cancellation, deferral and resit terms depend on the pathway, timing, cohort and applicable registration terms. Learners should review the terms shown before payment and contact IOWL promptly if circumstances change.

Digital awards and documents are normally made available through My World. Physical award packs, replacement documents, folders or couriered items may be optional extras and may carry additional charges where available.

Renewal and PCD

Continuing standing and Perpetual Calibre Development™

Certified standing is not the end of the IOWL journey. It continues through Perpetual Calibre Development™ and renewal where required.

Certified standing is normally awarded with an initial period of recognition, often including first-year standing where stated. Continuing public use of current standing may require renewal, engagement with Perpetual Calibre Development™ and compliance with IOWL rules.

Perpetual Calibre Development™ is IOWL's continuing development principle. It supports ongoing reflection, positive values-led development, integrity practice and sustained calibre after certified standing has been awarded.

Yes. Enrolling on or completing a PVL pathway is separate from future renewal of certified standing. Future renewal requirements, fees and PCD expectations are explained before registration and within My World where applicable.

Automatic renewal should not be assumed. If automatic renewal is available, the payment and renewal terms will be shown before the learner agrees to it. Otherwise, renewal will require the learner to take action when renewal becomes due.

If certified standing lapses, the learner may lose access to current member benefits and should not present themselves as holding current IOWL standing. Historical completion of a pathway may remain true, but current standing and post-nominal use may be restricted under IOWL rules.

Reinstatement may be possible, but it may require payment of any applicable renewal or reinstatement fee, completion of outstanding PCD activity, confirmation of current details, or further review by IOWL.

My World and resources

Access to benefits, learning and events

My World is the learner-facing environment for access, learning, events, awards and records.

Learning, pathway materials, events, awards and documents are accessed through My World. The exact content visible to a learner depends on account status, enrolment, cohort, pathway and eligibility.

Where a pathway includes live tutorials, induction or other scheduled events, access information is normally shown in My World. Learners should follow the event instructions and join using the official access route provided.

IOWL tutorials are designed as live, interactive learning events. They are not normally recorded for later passive viewing. Learners should attend live where tutorial attendance is required for engagement or eligibility.

Access to community features, events, updates and resources depends on the learner's account type, pathway, cohort and current standing. Aspirants may receive introductory access; certified learners and members may receive additional access where available.

Digital award documents are normally made available in My World, usually within an awards, documents or learner record area. Availability depends on successful completion and IOWL award processing.

Sponsors and cohorts

Universities, employers and partner cohorts

Some learners join through a university, employer, sponsor or approved partner cohort.

Yes. Universities, employers and other approved partners may sponsor Aspirant access, cohort participation or certified PVL pathways. The terms of access, fees and responsibilities may differ from the public route.

Your learner record is held within IOWL systems according to IOWL rules and applicable data protection requirements. A sponsor may receive agreed progress or participation information where this is part of the approved cohort arrangement and lawful basis.

An employer may sponsor or recommend a particular pathway based on role, seniority, organisational need or onboarding requirements. However, IOWL remains responsible for assessment standards and awarding decisions.

Completion, deferral, withdrawal and refund arrangements depend on the sponsor agreement, cohort rules and timing. Certified standing is not awarded unless the learner successfully completes the required pathway and assessment.

Account and documents

Account, profile and document questions

These questions cover practical account, records and document issues.

Update your account details in My World where available, or contact IOWL if a change affects identity, award records, country pricing, sponsorship or certificate wording.

Contact IOWL promptly. IOWL may need evidence of your correct legal or preferred professional name before issuing or reissuing documents. Replacement or reissue fees may apply where a document has already been produced.

No. Learners should maintain one learner account so that pathway participation, assessment, awards and PCD records remain accurate. If you believe you have duplicate accounts, contact IOWL before registering again.

Use the password reset process on the login page where available. If you cannot regain access, contact IOWL support with enough information to identify your account securely.

IOWL uses learner data to manage account access, pathway participation, learning records, assessment, awards, communications, support, compliance and institutional reporting where applicable. Data is handled under IOWL policies and applicable data protection requirements.

Standards and conduct

Assessment, conduct and accurate use

IOWL recognition depends on standards. Learners must use IOWL terms, awards and standing accurately.

Engagement requirements depend on the pathway. They may include chapter access, reflected engagement, coursework, tutorial participation, assessment readiness and compliance with course policies. Learners should follow the requirements shown in My World and IOWL course communications.

If you do not pass the required assessment, certified standing is not awarded. Resit, deferral or re-entry options may be available depending on the pathway rules, timing and applicable fees.

No. You may say that you are enrolled on or undertaking a PVL pathway, but you should not claim certified standing, Calibre Credits™, post-nominals or a Statement of Professional Standing until IOWL has formally awarded them.

IOWL may review, suspend or withdraw standing where there is misconduct, misrepresentation, misuse of IOWL awards, breach of policy, academic integrity concerns or other conduct inconsistent with the standards of calibre and integrity.

You may accurately refer to awards, standing and records that IOWL has formally issued to you. You must not alter IOWL marks, create derivative awards, imply endorsement, or use IOWL intellectual property in third-party products, training or marketing without permission.

Contact IOWL through the contact page or the support routes shown in My World. Include your name, account email, customer reference if known, and the pathway or cohort your question relates to.
