Define precisely

Protected terms are useful only when their definitions remain sufficiently precise to distinguish one IOWL concept from another.

Use accurately

Names, marks and recognition titles should not be altered or used to imply certification, partnership or authority that has not been granted.

Preserve the portfolio

Some marks remain protected even where IOWL's current public architecture now uses a newer or more precise expression.

An intellectual-property register, not a list of current products

The portfolio contains both current architecture and retained protected expressions. Inclusion protects and defines the IP; it does not by itself mean that every item is a currently available course, service, centre, credential or organisational recognition.

The register therefore separates core architecture, professional recognition, applied concepts, methods and systems and retained IP. That makes it possible to preserve earlier marks without allowing them to obscure the current Calibre architecture. Each protected term also has its own permanent public URL and search-engine metadata so that a person researching or considering a similar term can discover IOWL's prior protected concept and its usage conditions directly.

The ® symbol identifies marks presented by IOWL as registered. The ™ symbol identifies IOWL trademarked or proprietary expressions. Registration and enforceability can vary by mark and jurisdiction; the symbol itself should not be read as a statement that every ™ mark is registered everywhere.

Use and permission

Reference is different from reproduction. Accurate descriptive reference to an IOWL concept is not the same as copying its diagrams, definitions, course content or protected methodology.

Licensing, adaptation, co-branding, incorporation into external products or services, or use that could imply IOWL endorsement should be agreed with IOWL in writing.

This page describes IOWL's institutional position and is not legal advice about trademark law in any particular jurisdiction.

The current Calibre architecture

The most important distinction in the IP portfolio is the relationship between development, assurance, action and recognition.

From Positive Values to recognised Calibre

Current IOWL public architecture can be read as a connected sequence:

Positive Value Leadership™ Provides the values-led developmental framework.
Transformation Reflection and application support movement towards internalisation.
Calibre and Integrous Agency™ Positive Values increasingly influence judgement, conduct and purposeful action.
Calibre Development Triad™ ICF + CCF + PCD provide developmental depth, assurance and continuity.
IOWL Learning Governance Architecture™ Operationalises relevant learning, engagement and assurance processes through My World and the IOWL Learning Smartboard.
GICI recognition Eligible assessed professional pathways can lead to professional standing and Calibre Credits™.

Development

PVL, the ICF and PCD explain what is being developed and how that development continues throughout changing circumstances and responsibilities.

Assurance

The CCF protects alignment between purpose, curriculum, learner experience, assessment and the recognition claim.

Agency

Integrous Agency and Agentive Leadership describe how developing Calibre translates into responsible action and leadership.

Recognition

GICI is the sole Calibre Credit awarding authority. Professional recognition is evidence-led and distinct from academic credit or generic CPD.

See the architecture operating, not only the protected names

The register defines and protects the individual terms. The deeper value lies in the way they operate together. IOWL therefore publishes a high-level explanation of the full developmental and recognition journey while deliberately protecting the detailed calibration, weighting, decision and implementation mechanics that would enable replication.

Independent scrutiny applies to IOWL's published standards, evidence, outcomes and research propositions. The protected methodology and implementation know-how are not publicly disclosed.

Share, attribute and tag IOWL

Use this reference when discussing IOWL concepts, sharing learning achievements or linking to our accounts. Hashtags identify a subject; account mentions identify the organisation or person.

IOWL-adopted hashtags

IOWL adopts the following spellings for its own communications and recommends them for accurate references to the corresponding concepts. Use #IOWL with the relevant concept tag. The principal tags are #IOWL, #PositiveValueLeadership and #CalibreCredits; use the latter when discussing assessed recognition.

These are communication identifiers. Listing a hashtag here does not register it as a trade mark, reserve it on a social platform, establish first use or claim exclusive ownership of a general topic. Any rights in the underlying name remain subject to the applicable mark and jurisdiction. UK trade mark registration guidance.

Preserve British spelling and word capitals for readability. Use Positive Value Leadership (singular) and Agentive Leadership. Omit spaces and trademark symbols inside hashtags; use the appropriate symbols with the full names in prose.

For broader discussion, tags such as #CalibreDevelopment, #Employability, #Productivity and #HigherEducation may accompany the relevant IOWL tag. These are general topic tags, not listed here as exclusive IOWL marks. IOWL-prefixed tags distinguish references to concepts such as Free Dialogue and Capacity Conundrum.

Accurate discussion and attribution are welcome. A hashtag or account mention does not confer certification, professional standing, partnership, endorsement or permission to reproduce protected material. Refer to the relevant entry for the meaning and scope of each recognition.

IOWL accounts and associated personal profiles

The institutional accounts below identify IOWL. The personal profiles identify the named individuals; their posts should not automatically be treated as institutional statements. An account listing does not indicate posting frequency or endorse its hosting platform.

For LinkedIn, use the linked company page or personal profile to identify the correct organisation or person when selecting a mention. Copying a name or link does not by itself create an account mention. For articles and newsletters, including Substack, link the relevant IOWL concept to its permanent register record and link accounts directly where appropriate.

Search the IOWL intellectual-property register

Search by term or filter the register by role in the current IOWL architecture. Select any item to see its definition, relationship to other IOWL concepts and principal usage guidance.

Protected-term directory

Each term below has a permanent, indexable URL so that search engines can return the specific IOWL definition and protection notice rather than only the general register.

IOWL protection notice: Calibre Burden-Shift™ is identified by the Institute of One World Leadership as protected IOWL intellectual property. Descriptive reference with proper attribution is different from adoption or appropriation. Third parties must not present the term as their own branded framework, programme, credential, product, service or proprietary concept, or reproduce or adapt the associated IOWL content, without written authorisation.

Definition

Calibre Burden-Shift™ is an IOWL conceptual mechanism describing what can occur when AI or other capability-enhancing technologies increase the volume or speed of work without a corresponding capacity for sound judgement, responsibility and Integrous Agency™ at the point of use. Verification, correction, escalation and decision responsibility may then shift to managers, specialists, quality-assurance functions or other downstream reviewers, reducing the productive benefit that the additional Capability might otherwise create.

Relationship to the IOWL architecture

Calibre Burden-Shift™ extends the Capacity Conundrum™ into the operational productivity environment. Where sufficient Calibre and Integrous Agency™ are exercised at the point of work, judgement can remain distributed with the person using the Capability. Where they are insufficient, judgement can become a downstream bottleneck and the burden of assuring AI-assisted work can move elsewhere in the organisation. The concept supports IOWL's wider work through the Centre for Calibre-Driven Productivity & Performance™.

Usage guidance

  • Present Calibre Burden-Shift™ as an IOWL conceptual productivity mechanism, not as a universal empirical law.
  • Do not imply that all management oversight, quality assurance or AI review represents an avoidable burden; appropriate assurance remains necessary.
  • Use the concept specifically where increased Capability is accompanied by displaced verification, correction, escalation or judgement responsibility.
  • Do not reduce the concept to generic management workload: its defining feature is the movement of judgement and responsibility caused by insufficient Calibre at the point where Capability is exercised.

The defined scope of IOWL recognition

The IP register also protects meaning. These distinctions prevent IOWL marks from being used to make a stronger claim than the underlying evidence supports.

Calibre Credits carry a distinct assessed meaning

They are distinct units of assessed Calibre recognition awarded through GICI on eligible professional pathways.

Professional standing is earned

Registration or payment provides access to a process. The standing is earned only where the required learning and assessment standards are met.

Recognition records demonstrated standing at a point in development

An IOWL award records that defined standards were met at the applicable stage. PCD carries that evidence forward through continuing development, application and recalibration.

Attribution, reproduction and licensing

Most questions about IOWL IP are resolved by distinguishing ordinary reference from copying, adaptation or commercial incorporation.

Descriptive reference: where you accurately discuss an IOWL concept, identify it by its correct name and attribute it to the Institute of One World Leadership where appropriate.

Reproduction: diagrams, maps, course content, assessment material, definitions, protected methods, software interfaces and branded assets should not be copied or redistributed beyond an authorised context without permission.

Systems and methods: authorised access to an IOWL learning environment or demonstration is for the purpose granted. It does not by itself grant permission to benchmark protected IOWL workflows, reverse-engineer unpublished methods, derive functional specifications for another implementation, or disclose confidential implementation logic.

Adaptation or integration: embedding an IOWL framework, method or system architecture into a university curriculum, employer model, government toolkit, consultancy product, LMS, software platform or commercial service requires an appropriate written agreement.

Need permission?

Describe the mark, framework or asset you want to use, the intended audience, where it will appear, whether it will be altered, and whether the use is commercial, educational or institutional.

That information allows IOWL to distinguish straightforward attribution from licensing, co-branding or protected-method use.

Protect the terminology

Precise definitions help keep the IOWL Calibre architecture coherent and distinguish it from generic uses of similar words.

Protect the evidence claim

Recognition names are protected partly so that third parties cannot create lookalike awards or imply IOWL authority.

Protect methods and systems

Platform access does not surrender IOWL software, workflow architecture, decision logic or unpublished implementation know-how for replication elsewhere.
